From our international and trilingual school we want to accompany families outside the classroom as well. We are all looking for different ways to disconnect and entertain ourselves, but we know that the important learnings should not be put on hold.

Today we share 3 games to practise languages with children at home, with special attention to the French. Our aim is that you can continue to reinforce what you learn during the course or introduce new words in a fun way.

1. “Je vois, je vois...”

The «I see, I see» is one of our favourites! It's perfect for reinforcing basic French vocabulary while having a fun time. The idea is to choose a visible object and give a clue about its initial or its colour, for example:

Je vois, je vois... quelque chose qui commence par la lettre R.

Je vois, je vois... quelque chose de bleu.

In this way, children practise both comprehension and pronunciation and consolidate vocabulary in a playful way. If they are at a higher level, they can describe the object: “C'est petit, rond et rouge.” This will help them to enrich their sentences and gain fluency.

2. Crazy instructions in French

Have you ever played it? It's a fun game to practice commands, verbs of movement and oral comprehension in French. The adults give simple (or nonsensical) instructions for the children to follow:

Saute trois fois.

Cours jusqu'à la porte et touche-la avec ton coude.

Recut in saying your favourite fruit.

The laughs are guaranteed! As well as reinforcing vocabulary and comprehension, it is ideal to lose the fear of expressing yourself in another language as confidence and fun come first.

3. Vocabulary Memory

The third of our proposals: A vocabulary memory. This game requires a little more preparation, but you can use it as many times as you like.

Create cards with pictures and words in French. The aim is to match picture and correct word and pronounce it by finding the correct match. It is a very visual resource that helps them to expand vocabulary and reinforce visual and auditory memory. If the children are older, you can include short phrases or questions in French that they have to read and understand when matching.

Who would like to play? Any of these three options for games to practise languages at home is ideal for keeping French (and other languages) alive outside the school environment.

If you are interested in offering your children a full multilingual education, we invite you to learn more about our educational project and discover how we can help them to grow by mastering French, English and Spanish in a natural, solid and progressive way from the earliest stages. We will be delighted to accompany you.

Si tus hijos están aprendiendo idiomas durante el curso escolar, mantener el contacto fuera del entorno escolar puede ayudar a refrescar la memoria y la habilidad.
