As we discussed in another post about the territories of France, the French Republic has a continental part (which we all know) and an overseas part. These regions have the same status, as stated in the French constitution. Let's take a look at some details about the overseas regions.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAlthough these regions cannot create laws, they can adapt them to the peculiarities of each territory. The overseas departments and regions<\/strong> are: French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, R\u00e9union. <\/p>\n

\t\t\tThe overseas collectivities<\/strong> were created with the reform of the French constitution in 2003 and have their own laws (statutes), which is the main difference compared to the overseas departments or regions. They are governed by local assemblies and by the French government. French Polynesia, Saint Barth\u00e9lemy, Saint Martin, Saint Pierre and Miquelon and Wallis and Futuna are the overseas collectivities.<\/p>\n
