A trilingual education: French, English and Spanish at Lycée français Molière

We educate international students. For this reason, language teaching is a fundamental part of our educational programme.

French, English and Spanish are the three languages spoken at the school. We tell you how languages are taught at the Lycée français Molière.

Flag of France

French

French is not only a working language, but also a language of socialisation. Our pupils not only speak French, they also live it. Throughout their schooling, pupils become bilingual and acquire several official diplomas to prove it.

English

The teaching of English is one of our priorities. Pupils start listening to English from the age of three and will be able to leave school with an official C1 qualification. We tailor the teaching of English to the pupils to make the most of all their skills and knowledge. We are also an authorised Cambridge Examination Centre, which makes it easier to prepare for and obtain these qualifications.

English

Spanish language and culture are part of the educational programmes at the Lycée français Molière. Alongside French and English, Spanish is taught from Infants and throughout the school year. By being part of these two cultures, the pupils' mentality develops with more perspective and they naturally assume their role as European citizens.

French

Pre-primary

A native teacher and an assistant accompany the student in the acquisition of the first concepts. Mastery of the French language is one of the basic skills in this cycle. Authentic communication situations are put into practice. We improve the quality of oral language: lexical fields and syntactic structures; and harmonise writing practices.

Primary

Numerous activities are organised in French: plays, cultural outings, stays in France lasting up to one week. The trips involve major work projects before, during and after. In the 5th year of primary school, the official French A2 qualification is obtained.

Middle School

In this cycle, reading and comprehension exercises are reinforced in order to master the French language. At the end of ESO, this process is validated by the award of the Brevet des Collèges and the B2 qualification.

Secondary

At the end of these courses, students obtain, in addition to the C2 qualification, the French Baccalauréat. The latter is equivalent to the Spanish Baccalaureate, which allows access to both French Universities (where places are reserved) and Spanish Universities. In addition, during ESO and Secondary, the school organises numerous exchanges with institutes in Paris, Cluny and Florence, which enhance the acquisition of French by the pupils.

English

Pre-primary

In 1st and 2nd Infants, a native teacher begins to introduce the first songs and expressions in English for one hour a week. This time is extended by half an hour in the 3rd year of Infants. The methodology consists of working on conversation and spontaneous learning through music, stories and play.

Primary

A teacher and a native English teaching assistant advance the teaching of English from 6 to 11 years old, with 2.5 hours per week, as well as conversation sessions in the classroom or physical education in English.

Middle School

With 4 hours of English per week and the support of a native English assistant, we achieve a high level of spoken and written English. Diagnostic tests are carried out at the beginning of each course and each student is placed at the appropriate level.

Secondary

In their final stage at the Lycée, students can obtain the C1 qualification, depending on their level. With the B1 and the double qualification obtained at the Lycée français Molière, they can gain access to any foreign university.

English

Pre-primary

In addition to the teacher for each level, another Spanish teacher helps out in joint or doublette sessions. Three hours a week, they work on different projects to develop expression in this language and to get to know Spanish culture.

Primary

The teaching of Spanish continues with three and four hours per week in which the teacher of this subject applies different programmes alone or accompanied by the teacher in doublette. The objectives are to learn to read and write in Spanish, as well as to improve grammar and spelling.

Middle School

These courses consolidate the knowledge acquired in the Spanish language in primary school. The students have different teachers for each subject, which allows them to develop more intensively the teaching of Spanish. In addition, on reaching the 4th year of ESO, the Graduate in Compulsory Secondary Education of the Spanish education system is validated.

Secondary

The Language and Literature and Social Studies subjects, which are compulsory for the recognition of the double degree, are taught by Spanish teachers in accordance with the official Spanish syllabus. At the end of this cycle, the Baccalauréat degree is validated by the Spanish Selectividad and the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE), from the Instituto Cervantes.
