France and its regions

France is one of the largest countries in Europe. Even bigger if we add its overseas possessions, located as far afield as Oceania.

Regions of France

These territories are made up of 27 regions, 22 of which are on European territory and the remaining 5 are overseas territories.

In this post, we are going to talk about mainland France. We will talk about overseas France in another post.

Metropolitan France is a flat, hilly territory made up of three large river valleys. The Seine, the Loire and the Garonne. It is a fertile land that allows for good agricultural development.

Not all of the country is flat; the Pyrenees in the south and the Alps in the west are large mountain ranges. They are well known for their breathtaking scenery.

Shall we cook together? Galette recipe

Galette

Today we have a simple but delicious recipe for you: GALETTE. For the whole family, light and healthy. Typical of the Brittany area, it has one main ingredient, buckwheat.

Ingredients for making Galette for 4 persons

    200 g buckwheat flour
    800 ml cold water
    5 eggs
    2 cloves garlic
    300 g mushrooms
    150 g spinach
    100 g cheese
    Salt and pepper to taste
    1 courgette
    250 gr of fried tomato
    Olive oil

Cooking steps for Galette

First step

Let's start with the base. Mix the flour with an egg, the water and a teaspoon of salt. You can use a mixer to make it more homogeneous. Then leave to rest for 1.5 to 2 hours.

Second step

While we let it rest, we continue with the stuffing. Sauté the chopped garlic cloves with the sliced mushrooms. When cooked, add the spinach. The spinach is cooked very quickly. Once everything is cooked, set aside for later.

Third step

The base: prepare a frying pan (if you have a crepe pan, perfect) and turn the heat to medium. Spread olive oil evenly (with a piece of paper or a skewer) and cover the base with the mixture we prepared in step 1.

Step 4

As soon as holes start to appear in the dough, carefully turn it over and start filling it with the mixture from point 2. Add grated cheese and then an egg (you can help yourself with a small glass).

Fifth step

Fold the sides of the base to make a square without covering the top, as shown in the photo.

Last step

Let the egg cook with the heat.

Enjoy!

It is an easy, healthy and delicious recipe. Perfect for the little ones to eat vegetables of all kinds. You can also adapt the filling to your taste by adding onion, pepper, minced meat, etc.

France is one of the countries whose culture and influence has spread throughout the world. The different historical periods have given rise to a series of traditions, very characteristic gastronomy, but also architecture.

The most beautiful castles in France that are worth a visit:

CHÂTEAU DE SAUMUR

Located a few kilometres from Angers, it is a castle with spectacular views of both nature and the city. The roofs of the towers are more reminiscent of a dream palace than a fortress. Dating back to the 10th century, it is home to several museums.

CHÂTEAU DU HAUT-KOENIGSBOURG

Situated almost on the border with Germany, this strategic fortress was burned and sacked during the Middle Ages. Left to its own devices, it was given to Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany. It was confiscated and returned to France after the First World War. Today it is very popular and visited by thousands of tourists every year.

CITÉ DE CARCASSONNE

One of the oldest fortresses in France and Europe. Its construction began in the Roman Empire, more than 5,000 years ago, to protect the trade routes to the south of the country. And the different settlers improved it, adding rings and improvements to make it practically impregnable.

Carcassonne. One of the most beautiful castles in France.

CHÂTEAU DE VITRÉ

Located in the province of Brittany, a few kilometres from Rennes and built around the 11th century, this fortress with more than 900 years of history is now the town's town hall. Its extensive restoration work and imposing entrance will delight all lovers of the Middle Ages.
