Overseas France - Learning

As we discussed in another post about the territories of France, the French Republic has a continental part (which we all know) and an overseas part. These regions have the same status, as stated in the French constitution. Let's take a look at some details about the overseas regions.

Curiosities of Overseas France

Although these regions cannot create laws, they can adapt them to the peculiarities of each territory. The overseas departments and regions are: French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion.

The overseas collectivities were created with the reform of the French constitution in 2003 and have their own laws (statutes), which is the main difference compared to the overseas departments or regions. They are governed by local assemblies and by the French government. French Polynesia, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, Saint Pierre and Miquelon and Wallis and Futuna are the overseas collectivities.

With regard to New Caledonia is a special territory, as it was granted the status of Sui Generis Collectivity in the 1998 Nouméa Accord.

*Si van a tomarla niños recomendamos no usar alcohol.
Mantenemos 15 minutos a fuego suave y removemos.
7. Gratinamos durante 5 minutos a 220º y “voila”.

Bon appetit!

Flag of France, what is the meaning of its colours?

The flag of France is one of the most recognisable flags in the world. Whether it is because of the country's history or because of its widespread culture, it is undoubtedly one of its best-known elements.

flag of france

Details of the flag of France

Origins of the flag

The flag originated at the end of the 18th century. The French Revolution brought this beautiful emblem. Its design is often attributed to the Marquis de Lafayette, a national hero (in France and the United States).

Colours of the French flag

White is the official colour of the country. Although it embodies royalty, it has been the representative colour of France for many years. Blue refers to the equality of all citizens of the Republic and red represents the blood of all those who gave their lives for the country.
Some claim that another meaning of the flag is related to France's motto, liberty (white), fraternity (red) and equality (blue).
